In response to these pressing issues, the AgrarBot project emerged as a pioneering initiative led by an Austrian team, aimed at revolutionizing farming practices through technology. This project focuses on developing an autonomous modular robot that assists farmers with various field tasks. By emphasizing versatility, expandability, and modularity, AgrarBot addresses the unique needs of different farming environments.

Designed to minimize soil compaction while optimizing navigation and task performance, AgrarBot is equipped with cameras and AI-based systems. The robot efficiently traverses fields, collects data, and analyzes plant conditions, providing real-time information to farmers via a web platform. For its machine vision capabilities, the project team requires a camera to capture the terrain and a Raspberry Pi to run the AI model that determines the optimal path.
When the engineering team from HTL3 Rennweg in Austria reached out to us, we recognized their project as a perfect fit for the AAU (Arducam Active User) Program. This initiative invites users to share their projects and gain assistance from Arducam.
To support the AgrarBot project in achieving its objectives, we recommend the Pivistation 5 – AI Hawkeye. This all-in-one camera kit features a 64MP Hawkeye camera and a Hailo-8LAI accelerator, providing advanced imaging capabilities and efficient AI processing. High-resolution imaging is crucial for monitoring crop health, detecting pests, and assessing soil conditions, enabling the autonomous robot to make informed decisions in real-time under varying lighting conditions.

To implement this technology, the team is developing a camera setup for their robot. It involves two cameras: one already mounted on the Pivistation 5 – AI Hawkeye Kit, which remains centred, and another USB camera connected to the Pivistation 5 – AI Hawkeye Kit, which provides a top-down (hawk-eye) view, looking down from the front. According to their research, this dual-camera configuration is expected to work effectively.

The Pivistation 5 – AI Hawkeye belongs to Arducam Pivistation 5 family which seamlessly integrates the powerful Raspberry Pi 5 with select high-performance image sensors and matching lenses. Each kit is already connected, configured, and tested, ready to use right out of the box. The models are equipped with suitable lenses based on sensor performance, ensuring optimal results for various visual needs. Additionally, the kit includes pre-installed camera drivers and an extensive suite of software, such as OpenCV-Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch, providing all the essential tools for your projects. The Pivistation 5 shell is crafted from the official genuine Raspberry Pi case, paying tribute to the Raspberry Pi ecosystem.
